Drink the Group Fitness Kool-Aid

I remember my first time: the music, the dim lights, the packed-like-sardines feeling of the people around me, and they were all yelling. I remember the tiny lady up at the front of the room, on her bike, screaming her head off at me, telling me I could make it up one more hill. After that last climb, I was hooked.  Ah, my first indoor cycling class.

My first class was everything I thought it could, would, and should be. It was a little bit embarrassing, somewhat painful (nothing compared to the day after though) and A LOT of fun. From that moment on, I drank the proverbial “Kool-Aid” of group fitness. I tried it all, but found my niche in the Les Mills classes offered at Lifestyle Family Fitness. It wasn’t all pretty, and I made a lot of mistakes. BodyStep: Fell on my butt. RPM: Can you say bike seat? Ouch. BodyAttack: Fell on my butt. BodyFlow: Fell on my butt. Are you sensing a pattern here? BodyPump: Used the bar and ONLY the bar, no weights, for my first class. I wasn’t perfect, and I’m still not. But the point is, I kept going and found friendship, humor, and a lot of love and connection in those classes. Now that I’m a BodyPump instructor (and I use more than just the bar—they tell me I have to) every time I take the stage I think about MY first time. The excitement and the embarrassment are still fresh, but I remember the feeling after I left that first class—“I can’t wait to go back.”

If you’re still apprehensive and totally unsure that group fitness is for you, try it, just once. Lifestyle Family Fitness employs only the best instructors (if I do say so myself) who are committed to your fitness and health. Drag a friend with you, or go alone and stand in the back corner. It doesn’t matter; just get there. Once you drink the group fitness “Kool-Aid”, you’ll never look back. And if you do look back, you’ll see a really tight butt.
